Effect send into a combo

Sign in to disble this ad
I had an idea to go through my hartke 3500a head like i normally would and then use the effect send into my line6 LD-150 combo, i would ultimately do this so that i could use the effects built into the line6, i wouldn't use the return, just use the combo as a seperate speaker. as far as ohms and whatnot, would this work?

I Don't think it'd work. The send/out bypasses the effects I think

Can't see why not. Ohms have nothing to do with it, as you're using a different power section to power different speakers.
Edit: as I don't use the FX loop, I'm just not sure if, when an amp "sees" that there is a cable plugged in the FX send (with a switch), if it bypasses the "normal" route of the signal so that it only goes through the FX loop... logically, this switch should be in the FX return and not on the FX send, I'm only mentioning it because I don't actually know how it works. Anyway, it's worth a try, I doubt you'll fry anything (of course, start at a zero volume at the combo in case the signal from the FX send is hot).

If the fx loop is series connected, plugging a cable into the send socket interrupts the signal path. Unless the signal is re-introduced at the return socket you won't hear anything through the Hartke.

if its anything like my GK then if you plug anyhting into the send-out for FX unless it gets something back it wont work.

BUT if it has a tuner out or a headphone out, you should be able to use that for the combo no problem.

It might, but the levels will be out of whack given that headphone outputs are usually more powerful than line or instrument outputs. This method will also mean that whatever effects are applied to the headphone output of the Line6 will be fed back into your Hartke.

Note what I said: "If the fx loop is series connected..."
Check that out first, for all I know your Hartke might have a parallel FX loop and that would change the whole deal!
