Me and some friends are going to do a cover of Tik Tok for a talent show for the hell of it. and I was wondering what kind of effect I should use for the bass in it. because I never use effects and I don't even know the variety of them. thanks. |

There's no bass line per se, so you can do whatever you want. Basically you could either just make up a line that compliments the vox, or you could play only during the chorus, which has a "bassy" synth line. If you go the second route, there are various synth pedals, so search on "synth". The quick'n'dirty method is just use a bright-sounding fuzz pedal. |

While there's no actual bass line there's this fun little 8-bit sounding synth line going on most of the song. At first I was using my EHX Bass Micro Synth which didn't give me that sound but it sounded good with the song. Then my roommate was messing around with Garageband and found this plugin called Bitcrusher that basically turns everything into 8-bit sounds so if you've got a mac there's the solution right there. I also messed around with my MXR Bass Octave Deluxe and that sounded pretty cool too. You've got loads of options really.

The pedal I use gets that ring modulation type of squeal when done correctly too. Kinda cool.
