Effects on Boss ME-50B

What's up dudes,

I recently picked up the Boss ME-50B and have been having a blast fooling around with it.

I really love the punchy sound of songs like (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-DoX7ZWO84Y). I've fooled around with the effects, but can't seem to match that awesome sound.

Anyone that has experience with the ME-50B that might give me a hand?

PS.
Using a Peavy Minx110 amp and fender jazz bass

Sorry to say this, dude, but I am pretty sure that is just bass, amp, and technique. Maybe some compression, but I'm hardly an expert at picking out compressed tone.

The ME-50B (when I owned it) was much better at dialing in clearly effected sounds than it was 'tone shaping.' It could do some tone shaping, but I never felt like the tone shaping was any great shakes (too extreme, not extreme enough, but never just right). I was able to dial in a lot of good rock tones, but it was tough to dial in much of anything else. YMMV.

30% of the tonal and effect options are quite good, the rest is cheese but I've found that to be true of most multi-fx pedals. I use the mid-scoop, soft or hard-knee compressor, and 3 band EQ to set the basic tone and then embellish with effects when necessary. I've found there's a marked imbalance amongst the effects (chorus, flanger, phaser, etc) when switching by hand. You really have to set up each individually and store them in memory / recall.

You are in half way to that sound. You have Jazz, now you need GK amp. ME50b is good for effects, if you dont have enough money for pedals, or if you need something compact. Have used it for 2 years, everything was fine, but not enough. Delay, reverb, octave down are good enough to keep it on board, but as it takes too much place, it will go to retirement as soon as i buy delay pedal.
