Delay! Good old dl4 always on. Messed with a few analog ones and haven't quite got what all the hype is about... also compression from a Maxon cp9+ pro and a bbe sonic stomp despite the nay sayers.

In my originals band: Compression, phase, OD, fuzz, chorus, flange. Why? Because I wanted to. I like to add a little flavor here and there.

In my cover band: Octave, synth, fuzz, envelope filter. Why? Some of the songs we cover use them in their original version, so I'll try to duplicate it. Sometimes it's just fun to change things up. I'd gladly use more, but I try to keep my board on the smaller side for gigging so the stuff I listed is just what is currently on it. I change it fairly often.

Depends on what I'm playing. But always on are my SA MWBDP, 90% of the time the clean boost or some light fuzz, and my BBE Opto Stomp is always on as well. For originals, I'm likely to have Moog Bass MuRF loop line laid down with a Boss RC-2, and SA BEF Pro or 3Leaf GR-2 on. Use my POG2 and Soul Vibe a lot as well. Figuring out where and when to use my BBE Two Timer delay. Every now and then I'll use my Digitech BP 80 for reverb or a couple of crazy presets I have saved. The one I'm not using as much anymore is the BBE Mindbender. May get rid of that one.

A good cable. The first time I plugged in with a George L it felt like an effect. A real cool effect.

I realize they're an rpa mostly due to the Material memory. When you use any better cable always keep the material memory in mind. In fact you might want to remember the material memory becasue it can cause your cable to twist and shorten and cause your stack to fall.

Pigtronix Disnortion - OD gain at 9 o'clock, tone at 3 o'clock for some grit. Fuzz gain at 8 o'clock or less, filter to scooped fuzz, output to boost a bit.

DOD Milkbox (I wouldn't call it an effect so much as say that it affects my signal nicely)
Eden WTDI

Honourable mentions go to

Pigtronix EP-1 - mostly on Envelope follower, low resonance - for a fairly subtle effect - generally on with OD or hot fuzz to bring out my picking.

Boss OC-2 - generally only on with OD as of late.

The Catalinbread Formula No. 5 is always on, as it makes my amp tube-y. Other than that, it boils down to imminent need. My Big Muff isn't being used as often as anticipated, but since my amp has to be set to 'Catholic Funeral Sickly Quiet,' I suspect I am not getting the performance I should be.

I use an ADA MB-1 preamp; I have dozens of presets saved in it with tube overdrive, compression, chorus, and various parametric EQ settings.
I also have an Eventide PitchFactor, which is more of a toy than a tool at this point. I need to spend more time familiarizing myself with it; I think the delay will sound great with the tube overdrive.

I have a bunch of pedals, but the ones I use the most are the Fulltone Fat Boost, an old TC Chorus/Flanger, and the Aguilar TLC Compressor. (Order for that is TLC > Fat Boost > TC Chorus)

Next up for gettin' used are the Boss OC-2 and Q-Tron (sometimes with distortion after the OC-2). Recently I discovered if you turn the gain down and adjust the EQ on a tube overdrive pedal and then turn up the level a bit, it is useful for a lot of rock tunes. It is not too over-the-top-dirty in that setting and gets a similar sound to a cranked tube amp (without scaring the little old ladies out of the casino). I also added a Holy Grail reverb for solos and for playing completely solo. Another discovery is that putting the reverb before the Q-Tron lets you hear the filter sweep after you stop each note which is a cool effect. I am also stoked with the Boss PH-3, but it is a good idea to use a true bypass pedal to get it all the way off when I am not using it. (Thanks to Dave Boggs at Loooper for doing great work very fast!)

My board right now is a korg pitch black into a fuzzrocious RAT king which is always on a low od setting and then occasionally I kick in the second setting to more of a high gain distortion that goes into a Mxr phase 90 and ends with a linden eq. The phase is being replaced by an eventide modfactor .

I use a Boss ME-50B for all my effects and EQ.

Normal sound is no effects. Flat EQ.

Most-used effect channel is a mid-boost, overall volume boost, and compressor. It's used when the bass needs to drive the song. Gets some use throughout a set.

Then it's the same thing with overdrive. Helps harmonics to cut through walls of guitar. Barely used, only use it two songs in two different bands.

I have a sound-hold function on the multi-effects that I use to ring out into infinity when two songs segue into each other. Not used so much.

And then there's the "ultrabass" function on my amplifier. The manual calls it a "subharmonics processor." Bass boost of doom. I use it for big room-filling epic ringing notes, typically just before the end of the last song of the night.

If I you want to know "MY sound", it's a precision bass->Ehx steel leather->proco rat->Ehx bass blogger->Ehx black finger->Ehx mole->clean amp. 80% of the time that's my set up all turned on.

I usually play clean but for parts of songs I use different effects. I use Distortion, Chorus and/or my Mu-tron Bi-Phase

Hmmmm... Aside from tuner and comp, the SansAmp is the only always on pedal at the moment and its used for tone-shaping. That's what I use 90 % of the time. I will use chorus and phaser when slapping and the Q-Tron for fingerstyle funk. Dirt and octave are used only occasionnally.

You know...several months ago I would have said Fuzz!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love fuzz, but lately I've exclusively been using OD and that's it. So weird. I actually pulled my B7K and Okko Basstard off my board and have them just sitting on top of my amp. Must be going through a phase of some sort.

B3K is almost always on for me. Pickle pie B into an EBS wah one, never use the wah without fuzz. Phat Phuk B for my cleaner tone.

You and me both.

For the last two weeks, I have been using just my Cave G4 overdrive pedal as the sole effects pedal with my Gretsch. The pedal fits into my guitar case, I carry just one thing into church, set and go. It is about as minimal as I wish to go, since I play direct to FOH 99% of the time. This is my only way of controlling "my sound".
