Effects loop question (probhably nooby)

Yo. Before the stones are thrown, yes, i read the F.A.Q.

The situation is this. I have a sansamp VT pedal, and when i got it i wasn't all to pleased with the results it gave me, but im pretty sure this is down to my amp, which is a combo (Peavey MAX 115, 60 watt). Thats why i want to bypass the EQ of the combo completely, letting the VT pedal do the work.

So, i plugged the pedal's in and out into the send+return of what is said to be an "EFX loop" on the amp. It makes no difference, and is exactly the same as if i plugged the pedal into my combo's input.

Now the loop does say "Post EQ EFX loop", which suggests why the previous just happened, but there must be a way i can bypass the amp's EQ?

Something tells me it's just not going to happen.

You have to plug your bass into the input of the VT Bass, and the output you have to connect to the "effects loop return" of your amp.

This is the only way to bypass the preamp of your Peavey.


"Post EQ effects loop" (while plugging your bass into the input of the combo and place the VT Bass in the effects loop) means you are going:

bass --> preamp Peavey combo --> EQ section Peavey combo --> VT Bass --> poweramp Peavey Combo --> speaker


If you plug the VT Bass directly into the effects loop return you have the following:

bass --> VT Bass --> poweramp Peavey combo --> speaker

(the regular input of your combo and "effects loop send" should not be used, you can look at it as a standalone preamp then "effects loop send" is just the output of the onboard preamp.
plugging a jack into the "effects loop return" then you switch of the link between the internal preamp and poweramp. EQing is in the preamp.) "effects loop return" is the input to the poweramp of your combo.)

The real test was playing with the combo's EQ, and low and behold, it didnt affect the sound at all! (which is what i want, of course )

I couldn't find a manual for the VT Bass online, so I'm not sure if they explain it in there.

I know that for the Sansamp BDDI in the manual it says how to hook it up as a preamp to a bassamp's poweramp.

It said that it was possible, but didnt really explain exactly how. Im new to the whole effects scene, but im liking it
