Effects placement?

Sign in to disble this ad
hello effects forum, i just scored a Sonic Max (rackmount) off a Tber and got a BBE Opto stomp pedal off the bay.

My question is what order do i put this stuff!?

Im running a GK 1001RBII head...so i have an effects loop....so should i run the 2 BBE's in the effects loop? or should i put my bass into the pedal, than to the Sonic Max, than from the Sonic Max to the input of the GK....Or i could put my bass into the pedal, than into the GK, than the Sonic Max into the Effects loop.....!?!?!?!?!?!?!

What would be the difference if i did it one way or another?

Try hooking it up in all the combinations you listed, listen to each one, and stick with the one that sounds the best to you.

Does your GK's fx loop run at line level (sometimes labeled +4 dB or 0dB) or instrument level (sometimes labeled -20dB or -25dB) or the ever-mysterious -10dB? Cjeck the manual to see if they specify line level for the loop (sometimes you have to check the specs on the last page).

Most rack gear is designed to run best at line level, and most pedals are designed to run best at instrument level. An example of instrument-level connection is:
bass --> pedal --> amp.

Once you've figured out what level the GK's loop runs at, you have to figure out what level the rackmount BBE runs at. Maybe it's designed for compatibility with low and high signal levels. Check the manual.
