It's a guitar with either a wah or an envelope filter. You really can't get the bite with a bass, sorry.

It's a guitar with a manual wah, generally strumming funk chords.

The closest to getting a guitar wah sound on bass I've found is the Wilson 12 pos Qwah, but even playing with a pick, it doesn't have that same scratchy guitar sound.

actually i think you'll want to use a good, old-fashioned wah-wah pedal for that. Bass isn't the ideal instrument (since the bow-chicka-bow-wow sound is wah-wah rhythm guitar, but you'll be able to do an effect vaguely like it with bass and a wah-wah. You want more rhythmic control than an envelop filter/auto wah can give you

Thats not to say that a funky bass line with some filter or wah can't inspire the ladies to undress......

but I digress....

Use your fingernails (flamenco style bassically or your fingers strumming with emphasis on the nails as they travel downward) like Stanley and Victor to get the 'chick' sound then add the wah!----even though I am not using a 'wah', I do a reggae version of 'Lord I Lift your name on High'===you can hear a clip of what I am talking about by going to http://cdbaby.com/cd/szymanski ---my whole record (The Grace Is In My Bass) is 100% bass guitar! You can hear the 'chick' of the reggae strum I am doing on the bass =my website is http://web.mac.com/stan_szymanski
