Effects with RBI

Sign in to disble this ad
Guys,

I have a Sans amp RBI Preamp. Do You run effects such as Chorus, Flange ect through the Effects loop or in front of the Preamp? Also, with the 50-50 feature in the loop can I run a Boss "Guitar" chorus and Flanger or should I buy the Bass versions? Seems like I could run the guitar type Boss pedals ( Which I already own) in the loop with the 50-50 engaged and still not lose my Bottom end.

I think you'll have to try it. Pedals in effects loops sometimes doesnt work because effects loops are at line level and some pedals cant handle that. I have an RPM and will be trying it out with my effects as soon as I get my new cab in the mail

I didnt think that the 50/50 switch blended the effect loop signal with a clean blend... hm...time to check the manual

I run all my fx in the RBI's loop in parallel (50/50) mode. Even so, guitar pedals suck enough low end to be noticeable. That's the only reason I stopped using my 70's Big Muff pi... for the time being anyway. A hi-pass fx looper - something like Tym Guitars "Big Bottom" - does away with the problem entirely, by keeping the low end out of the fx loop. That's going to be my next attempt at achieving Perfect Bass Distortion (TM)

99% of pedals do not discriminate whether on guitar or bass. The guitar and bass versions usually sound a little different though.

The exception is usually with distortion pedals.

But otherwise... everything from delay pedals to chorus pedals to filter pedals should work perfectly fine on either guitar or bass.

On my board, I've rarely had "bass-specific" pedals - most of mine are "neutral" (and that's the way you should think about most pedals, really). In fact, I only have one "bass-specific" pedal right now - an MXR Blowtorch. Everything else could care less if I'm running a guitar, bass, keyboard, or kazoo.

i run effects in the loop with 50/50, there is a noticeable difference in the performance of my distortions/fuzz because of the hot input signal. also there is definitely bottom loss, but probably not as much as by it self. the one thing that makes me think about putting them back in front is that, since my signal is so dirty already from the rbi, some of my stomboxes dont make a difference at high volume, even maxed out. they still do if infront. i say experiment at playing level, because with the pedals at the same setting, with a lower output on the rbi, the pedals give a gigantic boost, whereas when i am at playing level there is no volume boost.
