hi

I'm planning on buying some effects. I live in Chile so its difficult for me to try them out.

My set up is simple. An Ovation typhoon hollowbody through an ampeg V4B

Im looking for a good eq (barber linden, empress, whirlwind?)

A compressor (markbass, aguilar?)

Those are some ideas, i hope you could assist me

thx!

The Empress EQ is amazing. Well worth the money.

As for compressors, it really depends on what you're after. Do you want clean limiting? Gentle tone shaping? Heavy squash? Tube tone?

For something low ratio that helps tighten up your sound a bit I'd recommend the Diamond Compressor or the new 3Leaf Pwnzor.

For a high ratio with transparency I'd say the new MXR (which I haven't tried) or the Maxon CP9 Pro+ would be great.

Lots of pedals for funky squash but my favorite is probably still the Frantone Sandwich. The Jacques Fat Burner is great for the price.

For fretless playing the Demeter Compulator is still one of my favorites but I'd like to try the Aguilar TLC for this as well.

Since you've got a tube amp I don't know if you want tube compression but the Markbass gets rave reviews. The Retrospec Squeezebox is still my absolute favorite though.

Lastly, I'd say that the FEA Labs compressors seems to be perfect for tweakers or studio use though I haven't tried them.

Personally I use an OWA 1960 because I like the tone and action.

Hope that helps.

The MXR M108 EQ is a good transparent EQ pedal. You can find them used for much less than new, even with shipping to Chile. It runs at 18v, so it has a good amount of headroom and response, 10 bands, level and gain sliders.

Nice! I used to have a Typhoon, it had a great fat tone.

Make sure whatever you buy, it actually does something your amp's EQ is not doing already. The Linden might not be any improvement over the V4B's EQ.

It's like Jared said, it depends on what exact result you want to achieve. There are lots of good compressors out there, so the choice should be determined by function.

Just for the record and as previously mentioned, everyone does seem to rave about the Markbass Compressore.
And for what it's worth, I own an Aguilar TLC compressor and love it. It's very transparent and doesn't color your tone too much, just does it's job. If that's what you're looking for, go with the Aguilar TLC. If you're wanting a bit of color in your compressor, I'd advise you look elsewhere.
