Effects in Rock music

Sign in to disble this ad
I was thinking the other day how alot of people like effects or have some effects that they cant manage to use in a Rock/Metal band context.

Maybe we could think up some Rock/Metal bands that have bass players who make their effects fit the song.

Maybe list some players and what they use or what song they use their effects in?
This is all in an effort to help give people and idea or some examples of how you CAN fit your effects into the song.

Flea uses an envelope filter on several songs.

Duff uses a chorus pretty much constantly with Guns 'N' Roses, and I think he also does so with Velvet Revolver.

Al Cisneros uses effects to great effect (ooh, look at the wordsmithery ) on Dragonaut:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zj9IAvv32wE

Also, this thread is going to be useless without clips.

Chris Wolstenholme of Muse is also an obvious answer.

He uses various fuzz pedals but I'm not exactly an expert on his rig.

And I love Al Cisneros, especially his work with Om!

The music doesn't call for it.

That's why its mainstream, and boring, and otherwise uninteresting. I'd totally listen to Nickelback if their bassist would step on a phaser every once in a while.

Strangle Hold by Ted Nugent - this bass line is so sexy... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=um2KDDml4nk

I wish I could stand The Nuge...

that riff is absolutely amazing, even in the face of The Nuge's utter, uh, lack of awesome?

I think about tearing off my ears every time they come on the radio. I really need to invest in one of those FM transmitters, so I can listen to my iPod in the car. But they're like $80.

Your post squashes mine lol. IMO though Great White Buffalo is his best riff.

I think I'm going to start putting all of these clips in the OP from now on.

What are you talking about man? I assume that if you are working on a musician's wage you probably have a tape deck in your car. Any store that sells iPods will most likely sell the tape that has a lead coming out that connects to your iPod. and even if you don't have a Tapedeck in your car ( Which I doubt you don't ) they are definitely not $80.

A musician's wage might mean he doesn't have a car, either, just ask Matt Pike.

My "new" car does not have a tape deck. My old car did and I used one of the tapes with the cords to listen to music in the car. But this one has a replacement stereo just a CD player and a radio. I went to Best Buy a couple weeks ago. There were 2 different models of FM transmitters. One was like $75 and the other was like $82. Seriously. It's ridiculous.
