Effects for Slap

I was wondering if anybody here uses effects when they are playing slap bass. I would imagine that most pedals, like distortions and overdrives, cannot really handle slap, but are there any pedals that you think sound good with slap?

Or you could go completely the other way with an expander, and really make your slaps and pops punch people in the face. Might be cool.

A synth or something. Listen to lots of Primus to hear what synths and funky filters sound like.

- Envelope filter of some sort to add the funkiness
- Compressor to take out the peaks
- BDDI to adjust your tone and possibly add a little drive if that's your thing

Personally, I don't like distortion with slap, but if you like it, you can consider an EHX Enigma: Q Balls.

I use my EHX Knockout as a sort of compressor / equalizer to get rid of peaks and to kind of 'shape my sound', but I have no filters what so ever. Is the EHX Micro Q-Tron any good with slap? And how does the bass Microsynth sound with slap?

If you're looking for something that'll add some punch to your sound, I would recommend an exciter pedal.

i have one myself and can't get it to sound that good.

I use it in band pass because I have a line selector to help fill out whatever low-end gets lost and then I usually have the Q at like 2 o'clock and the drive at 4 o'clock

i get a demon slap sound from running my jazz into an xotic BB with treble cranked and a teeny bit of gain, then its just a case of dialling in a bit of compression on my trace head.
