This is by far my favorite (and most useful to me) subforum at TalkBass and while my interest waxes and wanes depending on whether I'm actively looking for new pedals or what the topics of discussion are, I generally enjoy reading and posting.
But the general tone around here has become a lot more chippy and impatient lately. And I mean beyond whatever that "spat" was about soundclips, though I suppose it's a symptom of a larger condition. I'm not talking about one or two people but an overall feel.
I don't know if it's that people are taking themselves and an internet message board too seriously or if there's just a diminishing level or respect shown, but either way it's annoying and needs to be toned down. |

I've been pretty relaxed on the whole since I became a moderator as I didn't want to come off as a curmudgeon or power-mad in my new role.
Recently the following issues have been brought to my attention: - Off Topic Threads.
- Lack of respect for fellow forum members.
- Non-G rated content - This is the TB standard
- "Pile on" - When a thread goes wrong, bystanders adding fuel to the fire.
All off these items will be more strictly monitored. If you need to refresh yourself on the talkbass rules, please do so.

But I thought the "I just bought a Butt Face" and the "Is self-oscillation harmful" threads veered off topic for the sake of humor while still having good information.
I'd like to think that line can be walked respectfully and make the forum enjoyable. But if the choice was between a humorless but informative effects forum and a free-for-all with little useful knowledge I would clearly take the former. |

I agree, we are just off the rails a little right now. I am not for HUMORLESS and will not permit total lack of humor |

I haven't been posting as much in FX lately, partly because my own interests are stronger elsewhere, but partly because the vibe here has been annoying.
However I believe the problem really stems from the economic situation worldwide. I'm not even kidding. Everywhere I look, people are crabbier than they were a couple years ago. I see snippy ****fights all over the web. People here on TB who used to be "lovably cranky" are now intolerable a-holes. Even among "normal people" perceived slights cause defensive reactions and both sides blow it out of proportion. Frequent posters like Munji and FLKnife decide they've had enough and they leave, taking their ball with them. Visiting the DB forum is like visiting Northern Ireland or rural Afghanistan.
It's hard out there for a pimp.

I think that line got pooped on with the recent bonerflushing nonsense.
Thankfully right now, this is grygrx:

As someone who plays and is into that type of music, it was nice to have a thread to talk about my stuff with people who were into the same sort of thing. At first i was like , but then I was like when all the other stuff started mixing into it. and when it was closed I was like

I did start it with the intention of discussing effects that were/are absolutely Krushing to anything put in front of the amp they were run thru.
And it degenerated. Sigh.... Thats the internets for ya Quote:

Out side of the BC love thread pt3 I missed most of the weirdness that has gone on here intill after the fact, and I don't read every thread.
Also if I seam snippy it is almost always just misguided humor and no more | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
