EH Microsynth + ???

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey all! I'm rapidly becoming more and more addicted to this site as I sit here at work and post this question LOL

I'm getting an Electroharmonix Bass Microsynth for Xmas and I was wondering what a good distortion/fuzz pedal would be ideal to pair this up with. I've been reading some posts about the MXR Blowtorch, but I haven't found any sound clips. Any other good suggestions? I really like the sound of the B:ASSMASTER (sound clips on their website), but the price is a bit out of reach at the moment.
Any similar sounding FUZZ pedals out there? Any sound clips would be appreciated. Is there any pedals that I SHOULDN'T pair up with my new EHMicroSynth??? Thanks everyone!

IME, the fuzz built into the BMS is plenty.

Before anyone else gets on you about it... Search... There it has been said... Now.

You can try a bunch of different pedals. The EHX Russian Big Muff Pi is a great choice. You can move into uncharted territory and go with a Proco Rat (the old one), try a Boss Bass Overdrive ODB-3 i think. I have a Boss HM-2 for my distortion, and it is great.

Electronix has made a low end lossless bass fuzz pedal. Buy it Now for $90 on ebay. There tons of choices. My advice, take your bass and the Microsynth to the store, and start plugging things in...

Thanks for the advise. I will definitely check into the fuzz built in on the Microsynth...but if that's not enough, i'll be looking into some of my other options.

BTW, I did some searches and didn't find much as far as pairing with the EHMS. Thanks everyone!

While no explicit thread exists regarding the combinations... just look at any pedalboard in the "Post Your Pedalboard" thread with a BMS on it, and you'll see what people are using with it.

The fuzz section is pretty thick and heavy, but if you don't like the voicing, just combine it with your favorite fuzz pedal.

There's no "wrong" pedal combination, in this case. I've seen the BMS used with all sorts of pedals, and I personally combined all of my pedals with it from time to time when I owned one. The octave section alone, into another fuzz pedal, produces some cool results, as does placing chorus, reverb, delay, flanging, or phasing after the BMS. But that's only the beginning - feel free to experiment!

I sometimes use an overdrive with my BMS for added sustain or to be able to get a sort of portamento sound. For that I use either a Boss ODB-3 or a DanElectro DaddyO. I don't use anything harsher because I don't particularly like sound that harsh.

One of my group's songs features me playing through a BMS; If you're interested in hearing it, go to our site and listen to "A Lesson in Evil". I would say that it's not the typical fuzz sound, its more of a choppy distortion. Which was perfect for what we were going for on this song.
