Question EHX .44 Magnum - Anyone got one?

Sign in to disble this ad
Any got one, used one, tried it etc etc. A subjective question but how loud is it? Can it be used for jamming etc?

I don't have one, but I think its designed for guitarists, so probably doesn't have a lot of low end, 'specially without an EQ, and not a lot of clean headroom. Could be interesting to try though!

I doubt what Sam just said. It's a poweramp, with a basscab that should be able to produce lows.

They even say it's fine for bass on it's product page.

According to the old adage that a 10 times power increase equals twice the perceived loudness, this amp should only be half as loud as a 440 watt amp. They have said in their literature that it only begins to distort once you go beyond the 44 watt rating. So if you get 44 clean watts, that should definitely be enough for practice or jamming IMO. I think you could do ok with that in some small gig situations even. I almost bought one but went in another direction.

Oh yeah: this should be in Amps, eh?

How do you figure? It has no stomp- (or any other kind of) switch, and it is an amplifier in every sense. You plug it into a speaker. The manual even goes out of its way to say

You might say that it is a pedal because it comes in a pedal enclosure. But imagine that it came in a shoe box; would it be a shoe?

Just the same as with any other 44 watt power amp.

It's not a pedal! It's an amp in a pedal-sized box.

I'm also interested in this to perhaps power one of my synths. Anyone know if this can be used with a PA speaker? Thanks.

So if it doesn't have a stomp or switch it doesn't belong here? What about this doodad , or these or something like this and what about a lil'ol' booster?

Ahhh, if the shoe fits...

Ok, wise guy, you got me! But when the first person destroys all his pedals by plugging a power amp in the middle of his chain, the blood will be on your hands. Poor pedals.

What's done is done.

Will all great Neptune's dripping wet reverb wash this blood
Clean from my hand? No, this my hand will rather
The multitudinous delay repeats incarnadine,
Making the long green ones short red.

A little EQ clears us of this deed.

OUT, Damned 1Spot, short out I say!

Out, out, brief fuse! Life's but a walking bassline, a poor bassplayer that struts and frets (or plays fretless with) his hour upon the stage and then is heard no more: it is a tale told by an amateur, full of sound and fury, signifying no tone.

So...

Don't like to resurrect a year old thread but, anyone here tried this pedal with a bass yet? I know it's a power amp so it shouldn't color the sound too much. I'm interested in hearing some first hand experiences with it.

And what about the .22 Caliber?

Anyone try it for quiet home practice?

Hm...

Nothing to add, beside these may be good for recording, as well!
