EHX Bass MicroSynth Soundclips

So I picked up one of these for grins because I could. I don't know if I'll keep it. I do like Freekbass and I like what he does with his, but it's not really "me". Anyways, I took a couple minutes to record a few different settings. Here's with the filter going up on the bass signal:

http://www.soundclick.com/bands/page...songID=9742410

If you play really staccato you can almost get a filtered clavinet like tone. Here's the same thing with the filter going down:

http://www.soundclick.com/bands/page...songID=9742407

It's not the most horrible envelope filter I've ever played (*coughguyatoneBR2cough*). It's actually not bad, probably be pretty cool if I took some time to dial it in. Here's some suboctave with the filter set in one place:

http://www.soundclick.com/bands/page...songID=9742409

Here's how the fuzz sounds, first just fuzz then attack delay too:

http://www.soundclick.com/bands/page...songID=9742408

That's pretty cool, that's why I really bought this pedal to see how it works as a fuzztone. Notice how it gets really loud though when I play a double stop. I guess what can you expect, it's meant for single notes. And then some other synth sound that goes like this:

http://www.soundclick.com/bands/page...songID=9742411

So that's that, if anyone has any requests for any specific settings I can give it a whirl, now is your chance because I have the pedal now and I don't know how long I'll have it.

I liked the last tone you dialed in especially.

I'm looking at this pedal vs. the new Empress Phaser as a very-unnecessary-pedal purchase.

I really like my BMS.

I've posted this link once or twice, but it shows just how funky it can get, especially when juiced with a delay and a touch of modulation.

Oh man. This is one of the only pedals that I have had once, and sold, but I really want another one sometime....soon.

My band plays so freakin' loud that it was hard to really hear the effect that it added unless it was the focal point of the song.

Kind of surprising to hear you play with one of these, Mark.
I really enjoyed the BMS while I had it. I let it go because as a 5 string player I just couldn't reconcile with not playing the bottom octave of my instrument. Oddly, the filter section seemed to have a harder time with that range than the octaves and fuzz.

Here's another synth sound.

I actually used to be really into this kind of stuff. I was an envelope filter junkie and the whole nine yards. Last time I played on of these Bass Microsynths was around this time:

That's what I used to sound like! I was really into Marcus Miller and Larry Graham, and I think Larry used a BMS or something similar on "Tis your kind of music" or some such track. I also had an Akai Deep Impact which I bought new sometime before then. Sold it years ago at a big profit, but what I really wish I'd kept was my Roland Jet Phase.

Bad sound
I wish I could play half that well!! you've got some awesome riffs going on in there!
Sure the solo was a but pretentious, and dare I say not very musical, but the skill involved in your playing is immense for 'some thumb slinging kid'

Either totally misread my post, or just wonderfully sarcastic -

I was being facetious. I know what you mean. I guess you could say I got sick and tired of being approached by Primus fans. At some point it makes you never want to slap a bass again. For the record I never, ever, not even once learned any Primus song. But as soon as you pop that string off the fretboard every Primus fan within a five mile radius comes at you thinking you'd relish the opportunity to play them a Primus song and talk about Primus. People just assume if you play the bass you must love Primus.

Oh, that's also why I play an SG Bass now, because it sounds and plays terrible, and I play it with flats too! I'm actually thinking about going with some tapewound flats to boot. I run that through a Marshall tube amp that's all distorted and I have pretty much the nightmare rig for any walking phallus that thinks he's cool and wants to sit in and play some Primus licks.

There's just something about it, a lot of people can't even pick out the separate instruments within a band. If you play a bass part they can hear, they automatically want to compare you to whoever is probably the only bass player they've ever really heard. People have come up to me at gigs eager to talk to me about and compare me to Les Claypool (I don't own any Primus albums) to Steve Harris (who I don't like and couldn't think of anyone I'd want to/do sound more different from) to the guy from The Cure (I don't know if I even know any of their songs). That's one of the things that sucks about being a bass player is having to put up with that, anyone agree?
