there is a fairly simple mod you can do to it, that involves swapping capacitors t allow the bass frequency through.

look it up on google...

Well I guess you get what you give (most of the times) so if you give away 200 bucks for a Boutique Hand Made Bass Fuzz then you are going to get something impressive but making some defence on the big muff I use the Little Big Muff and its pretty nice but u have to work with the EQ in your Amp to get the best of it
Welcome to the Jungle!! err I mean the Pedals Jungle =D

It's not that it's a bad pedal by any means, it's that it does eat some low end. EQ'ing might help some of it, but to what degree? I don't know. Sold mine for something else, which I probably sold as well. For $30, I wouldn't complain. Sell it on eBay, you'll probably get more than that out of it. Use that money to buy the bass big muff.

The Big Muff rolls off a bit of your fundamental, and also has a mid scoop around 1 kHz. On bass, I use mine with the tone at 11 o'clock and always run it in a blender.

The American reissue, I've found, isn't the most bass-friendly of the Big Muff pedals out there. The Sovtek, Russian, Little, and Bass Big Muffs are much better on bass. Still, the American reissue has its fans, and a capacitor swap can make a difference (if you're interested in modding it).

Regardless of the Muff model, try turning down the tone - the tone knob rolls off lows while boosting highs when above 12:00, and rolls off highs while boosting lows when below 12:00.

Search for the word "fuzz" in this forum. You'll find at LEAST 20 other options that many bass players have sought, all of which sound different. Everything from boutique Big Muff clones to Brassmaster clones to synthy fuzz pedals (and I'm only scratching the surface).

However, the Big Muff (especially the old Sovtek and Russian ones) is still popular on bass. But those fuzz pedals aren't for everyone.

My advice? Check out the sound sample section of the TalkBass Wiki. Also, check out www.bassfuzz.com, which is a collection of reviews, soundclips, and videos maintained by one of our members (grygrx). It should help you figure out which fuzz pedal you may want to check out next.

This is the most discussed pedal on the board, with the most clones and options, with the most threads. Search.
