EHX BMS... LOVE IT!!! But may I ask.....

Sign in to disble this ad
what settings yooz guys use?

There are a plethora of BMS threads and posts, all of which I have soaked up. (Sorry for yet another thread)

Right now (from memory) this is how I use it- (1 Bottom to 10 Top)

Attack- 8
Sub O- 10
Guitar- 5
Oct- 10
Square- 3-8 depending on my mood.
Attack Delay- 2
Reso- 8-10
Start- 3
Stop- 9
Rate- 8-10

I dont think I'm missing a section.
This gives me a warm, fat, huge, saturated filter sweep sound.... so gushy!

I also swap the Start/Stop settings to change the "direction" of the filter sweep....?

Can you guys/gals shed some light on your settings... I'd love to see why YOU love the pedal too!!!

I love the super LUSH tones and depth I get from this thing! AWESOME pedal! Mind you, I'm NOT an effects guy at all.... but this really caught my ear! As impressed as I am.... I'm thinking about some more EHX merch! MMMM Phaser!!!???

Good question!

It's exactly that! Unaffected! Clean! IIRC, It has true bypass.

I run two rigs via an AB/Y... One clean Mesa and One Dirty Fender. Each have different EQ settings which allows me to dedicate one rig to effects.... needless to say, running both clean is simply chest thumping!

Mesa Venture 600 and a Fender BXR 100... Live, I DI the Mesa rig and mic the Fender. Gotta say I'm really diggin my current set up!

Put a nice synthy sounding phaser on deep and slow and you'll wish it were part of the BMS

I'm guessing there is quite a volume difference b/t you bypass and effected signals.

I know the manual says to dime the sub and such, but try taking your sub/guitar/octave/SW settings and pull them back equally -- this way you can set the effected volume so it's only a slight boost.

Sounds the same, only quieter.

Nice thread!

One of my favourite things is to use the BMS just as an Octaver or a Fuzz pedal. Just put the Trigger to 0 and set the Voice section to taste.
Especially when using as Fuzz it's nice to have the chance to blend in as much clean signal as you want.

Something else:
You know, the BMS has that gate build in which when not being careful can make your notes end abrupt. I often put my Bass Big Muff in front of the BMS. This way it gets more gain and gives you a waaaay longer sustain. I love to let a note ring and then play with the Filter Up and Down. With a good distortion in front the notes don't end so fast.

Have fun with this great tool

Another convert! congratulations...

Did you say "phaser"? My stereo polyphase came in yesterday. It is truly bitchen and I don't know why they haven't released any demos on bass... I guess that's my job? The adjustable start and stop points of the sweep allow you to craft some very distinctive phase tones, and the envelope phaser mode is BEYOND SUPERLATIVE: super clean and liquidy, and very flexible (again owing largely to the start and stop controls).

I've barely got started with this thing but it's gonna be a fun weekend...

Mine isn't too far from yours, though I prefer to have the filter go down instead of up. So the start frequency is higher -- a ten and the stop frequency is around 4 and the rate around 5. I usually send that into my Psilocybe for enhanced wetness.

EDIT: and unless you're using the microBMS it's definitely not true bypass. I had mine modded to decrease the IMO unacceptable amount of tone suck it came with.

Here's a setting I've been using lately to mimic the bass/synth unison line from Gary Numan's "Cars"

Attack- 9
Sub O- 6
Guitar- 4
Oct- 10
Square- 0
Attack Delay- 0
Reso- 4
Start- 7
Stop- 9
Rate- 4
