EHX BMS Trigger: Sensitive or Broken?

HELP!

I'm trying to determine if the BMS I'm playing with is broken or not. I've played around with the internal trim, but I can't move the trigger slider past about 4 without getting some terrible distorted noise and some 'radio interference' type sounds. Anybody seen this before? It happens with both my active and passive basses. I've tried multiple chords and power supplies with the same result.

Is it the 24v older big box or the new 9v version? I had some issues with the sliders on my old big box version, sent it to Ehx for a tune up and its as good as new now.
