Anything from New Order.

Seriously, they're really good examples of what it can sound like.

A few songs to check out:

"Bizarre Love Triangle" (listen for the ambient bass in the upper registers... the keyboard's doing most of the lower, heavy stuff)
"Sunrise" (it's the rhythm and intro... can't miss it!)
"The Perfect Kiss" (best appreciated in the 10-minute video version, especially the solo during the last few minutes: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=--pSWLEVGhY)

Peter Hook single-handedly made the Clone Theory famous. And yes, the reissue can nail that sound easily in Chorus 2 mode.

Oddly enough, I can't think of any famous guitarists who have used it... just a famous bassist (Hook).

I guess the "Clone" pedals didn't really catch on in the guitar world (outside of the New Wave genre, anyway) until Nirvana showed up.

I'm pretty sure the lead bass in the Glove's "Like an Animal" is through a Clone Theory....

I forgot, there's a low-quality (camcorder) version of one of my band's tunes (the first time we played it live, so it's very sloppy) where I'm using a Clone Theory...

Definitely the appropriate place to use the Clone Theory! Thanks for the video, lunarpollen!

Now I'm getting nostalgic...

I think I want to get another Clone Theory.

BTW, what are you using gear-wise? Bass, amp, strings?

Do, then record some clips with bright strings and use a pick

lunarpollen's video wasn't enough for you?

Just be aware, Bass Junkie, that the words "subtle" and "Clone Theory" never go together in the same sentence. It will color your tone, and it will be a chorus tone you'll never forget.

Then why haven't you bought a Clone Theory yet? Do you really need to listen to any clips at all?

I was playing my Dillion VBMB-04 with the neck and bridge pickups on and the middle pickup off, and I think at the time I had groundwounds on it, but now that bass has TI flats on it (I *think* I changed the strings sometime after that video was taken). I always play with a pick with this band. I was using a Behringer BX4500H through cheap cabinets at the time.

I currently play a Schecter Hellcat VI short-scale with roundwounds and it is a bigger and brighter sound, especially through my MarkBass LMII and nicer cabs... I wish I had a way to record soundclips at home... Hmm, my mp3 player has a built-in microphone; I could try messing around with it and see how it sounds.... I can't make any promises though....

Haha I just made a recording and it actually sounds pretty good (even if my playing is ultra sloppy). I had to play at low volume in my apartment, but it sounds fairly nice and full. The only issue is that because of where I had my mp3 player, and because of the low volume I had my amp at, the microphone picked up a lot of unamplified acoustic noise from the bass itself (fret noise, string squeal, pick snap, etc.), making it sound boingy and sometimes like an acoustic bass guitar. I'll get a better clip next time, now that I know not to sit right near the recording mike.

But anyway, here's the silly clip I made, my first ever soundclip. There's no compression, and I'm not really trying to play accurately or consistently. The first 15 seconds are with no chorus. I also used a little slap back echo for much of it. I can leave that turned off next time I make a clip.

http://www.sendspace.com/file/2424kf

It's 6 MB in size, 6:51 long, just pathetic noodling, chords, bits of melodies, song parts, etc.
