i picked one of these up again on a whim and was surprised how much I like it. It is not as noisy as I had remembered (well, some settings are), and while I got it for using with synths, I've found that it CAN get quite interesting, very useable sounds on bass.
My more positive experience this go-round may have something to do with the different unit, but I think it has more to do with my much better understanding of phasers, flanging and modulation
if you have one of these and you're on the fence about keeping or flipping it, I recommend you check out the mode zero review, which is actually more useful than the ehx instruction sheet.
The Hoax is more than just a through-zero flanger. even used on their own, the modulation, fixed and swept phasers are all pretty cool. The Blend knob is your friend because absurd amounts of feedback are available. Its potential as a dedicated self-oscillation device makes it a must-have for noise freaks IMO. More conservative sounds I've been able to get (that sound good on bass and have acceptably low noise levels) include shimmery polychorus-esque analog choruses, comby faux-tremolos, warm and synthy pixelized and modulated feedback-fuzz, comby faux-tremolos, and OMG ACTUAL PHASED LFO WOBBLE (still working on perfecting that one)
I'm wrapping up a big project this week but will get some fresh samples up next week |

It really is a remarkably versatile pedal. |

Originally Posted by RCCollins I don't. But they're not that hard to find, often for cheap | That's my plan. I've been looking for a flanger for a while, and my idea of a pedal hat does the one job is kinda going out the door. I want it to do the one job and be the fat kid that eats all the cake as well. Then said fat kid causes all kinds of noise, modulations, occilations, and other drama. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
