Do you guys run your hog in front or after a compressor? I use a comp at all times and seem to be having issues with the Hog "glitching" both before or after my comp.

Any suggestions?

I personally run no compression and have no issues with it. As a matter of fact I run my HOG at the tail end of all my fuzz, dirt and analog octaving!

IME the only reason the HOG should have any trouble tracking your signal is if you have the input gain set wrong. If the input signal isn't strong enough it may struggle with finding a signal to replicate, if it is too strong it will clip unpleasantly.

One thing that can sound like glitch is playing dissonant chords. Dissonant chords usually have a bit of a vibrato type effect in them and the HOG shifting seems to amplify the effect, giving the effect of glitching. If you just select one slider, play the chord, then play the chord with the HOG on, it really doesn't sound that different, though.

HOG is amazing

I've had mine since 2006 our 07. I've used it with many instrument, currently a p bass and an eub. I keep finding new ways to use it. Some of my favorite settings:

1. 8ve down, original, and dry all prominent in the mix. A few higher octaves slightly lower than the others, no 5ths or 3rds. Set the envelope so the highs decay and the lows have a delayed attack. Especially spacey with my carbon copy. I use the volume function on the expression pedal for this. Your attack whistles and shimmers and long tones warp into deeps foundation shaking goodness.

2. Original, dry, 8ve up, and 2 8ves up only this time the highs get a touch of attack delay. I use the freeze gliss function often times leaving the expression pedal rocked back 75% and letting the notes trail behind me. I do this with fuzz and delay at times, sometimes both.

3. Not the most clever but mixing all voices, heavy on the subs with the filter function, no envelope is super powerful, especially with fuzz and a square wave tremolo. Mmmmmmm......

Attached is a photo of my board when I first bought my hog. I was playinga baritone through the hog, then splitting one signal hitting the top row effects and ending at a blues deluxe, the other signal going through the bottom row and into an ampeg ba500. I now run two bases into a bass bone, into the hog, then to a carbon copy, green Russian, babyface tremolo.

In fact, my band uses two. Our drummer would too if it wasn't a logistical nightmare. My Rhodes player liked mine so much that he got one for his own rig.

And with the announcement of the HOG2 this page is now for us "vintage" users! With that said I'm (trying as best I can with a 2 month old) putting together another video.
