EHX KnockOut: How do you use it?

Sign in to disble this ad
I tend use the KO for when I need a deep bass sound in the music I play. It works well for that one specific need, but I wonder how those of you that have this pedal use it in other ways.
This below is from the manual.

" The LOW knob controls the output volume from the Knockout’s 7-Pole Low-Pass Filter. The low pass filter has a fixed cutoff frequency of 85 Hz.
The HIGH knob controls the output volume from the Knockout’s 6-Pole High-Pass Filter. The high pass filter has a fixed cutoff frequency of 6.5kHz."

I dont understand what a 7 or a 6 pole filter is? Does anyone know what that means and how I can better apply this info to KO?

This is a litle snippet from the web site page
"Its secret...the Knockout has a 7 pole filter for sculpting the low end of your mids and a 6 pole filter to shape the top end of the mids."
SO it just shapes the mids? Doesnt seem like it really.

7 pole lowpass filter means it's cutting everything above 85Hz by around 20dB per octave. 6 pole high pass filter at means it's cutting everything below 6.5khz by some 17dB? per octave.

So even tho EHX website says it shapes your mids the filters only affect your bottom and high frequensies (for bass atleast). Great for mid scooping i'd think o_O

Thanks for the reply putsia, so the 7 pole LP filter is cutting frequencies above 85 Hz, I had the feeling it was boosting them. Where as the HP filter is cutting below 6.5 kHz and thats where the mids come in, Im guessing.

Interesting.

I used the KO today in front of my Groove Regulator to boost some of the chewy chew and I gotta say it worked well for what I was trying to achieve. Now I found a new place for the KO in the fx chain.

So does anyone else have the Knockout and would like to share some settings or uses?

I use my Knockout as an "always on tone shaper" type pedal. My tone is far too thin without it on, lacking lots of bite so the Knockout is a total saviour.

My settings are pretty simple: low is set to around 1/2 o'clock, dry around 11 o'clock and high 1 o'clock.

I'm going to use mine today when I get home. I haven't used it in a while. I just got a tube amp, so its time to figure out what all my pedals can do with it.
