I really liked the LPB-1. I used one to overdrive my Mesa 400+ and it really roared. I thinks it's a great pedal if you don't have a lot of money to spend. Are there better boosters out there? Yes. But the LPB-1 will do exactly what you're looking for and it will do it well. You can't really go wrong for $40.

+1

There are better boost pedals, but the LPB-1 works great and is surprisingly transparent

There are some (I can't name off the top of my head) that are more transparent and have more gain before they distort, but for the price, it's hard to beat the LPB.

I'm eyeing the LPB due to the price. Was also considering a used Fatboost v1 and Yellow Submarine.

If you're looking for something to over drive your amp, the lpb-1 is the best choice especially at that price/sound ratio. You're obviously not looking for a unaltered clean sound, so the more expensive models wouldn't be necessary.

The Fatboost and Submarine are both heavily 'colored' boosts (that is, they impart their own eq). I've put the LPB-1 on a scope and it was very flat. Just a touch of treble roll-off as you increased the gain.

Other great "top-tier" flat boosts include the Xotic RC Booster (with the eq set flat) and Creation Audio MK 4.23.

Here is a nice list of boosters. There are a lot to choose from there are even some that aren't on this list but this should help. I just ordered a Wren and Cuff Phat Phuk (not transparent at all but I can't wait to fire it up with my Mesa).

Another great one in the same price range as the Phat Phuk B. is the PE RX Overdriver. Fantastic Booster with loads of gain on tap.

Also, don't forget the Catalinbread Serrano Picoso and Super Chili Picoso. The SCP can do over 35 dB of clean boost, plus it has a fat switch.

I have the Serrano Picoso - luv it and it's super tiny, about 100 bucks.

the LPB-1 is a super simple circuit. Easy to build yourself. It was my first build, and I had zero experience. I've even heard of folks building them into a bass.

check it:
