EHX LPB 2ube opinions

I am looking for something to add a little "tube" ness(harmonic sparkle) to my GK. I like the amp, but it only does its thing at LOUD volumes, and sometimes thats not possible. I want a little more grit, too. The 2ube is said to be transparent in that it won't reEQ your sound or kill the lows.

I was thinking either the 2ube or the English muff'n as they both have real tubes.

I have a Boss ODB-3, which seems to be more suited to a full out fuzz box, which is ok. I am looking for something more subtle and I like how tube pre's sound. I have no plans on ditching the GK for something with tubes because for the most part I love sound, but you know how GAS can be

Any ideas.

I did do a search and read up a lot, but I am looking for more opnions. All help will be appreciated.

I looked long and hard at these EHX units. Info on the 2ube is really scarce - not many people on here or other boards are using those. Spent hours reading about 12AY7 tubes, plate voltages and studying the schematics for the Muff'n. These puppies do run at a respectable 200-300 volts internally. Most other tube pedals run at much lower voltages.

But in the end I went with the SANSAMP Para Driver DI. It really thickens the tone on my Genz-Benz ML-200. It's tiny, built like a tank, and gives really good tube-like saturation and compression. It's touch reponsive as well - I set the drive control just to the verge of breaking up and it will get dirty when I dig in.

I've only played the LPB 2ube in a shop but as I've mentioned a few times, it's the one of 2 overdrives I've been able to try in person that I really liked. It gets a range from totally clean to pretty heavy OD without coloring your tone. As I recall it got a really nice kind of crunch (made me sound like John Wetton) without getting all buzzy like some OD's do. The other OD I liked was the Seymore Duncan Twin Tube Classic which had a really nice rich warm sound and a boosted OD channel that was a bit more than I wanted. The Seymore had a smaller footprint, possibly a more solid build but it uses some weird tubes that I think you can never replace and don't tubes often have to be replaced eventually?

Mine was noisy. But then, that's probably the room, and the fact that it lived next to my computer monitor. It did a decent job for what it was, but all of those EHX tube effect boxes seem kitschy and fragile, not to mention oversized with plenty of empty space inside the case, and I hated the fact that you had to use the proprietary power supply. I sold it and got a
Siegmund Double Drive, and there's no comparison.
