Question EHX Nano 9v Adaptor / Daisychain?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey guys,

Got a question.

Just bought an EHX Nano Clone.

Reading through the red sheet that comes with it, it mentions NOT to attach it to a daisychain as:
Quote:
The inner ring of the 9volt power adaptor must be
negative.
and:

Quote:
the nano clone will not work with the same power adaptor that is daisy chained to the other pedals
Now, I know some of you have nano series pedals in your pedalboards, so, how'd you get around this?

ps.: I hate relying on 9V batteries...

The Nano Clone and Nano Muff are the ONLY two Nano pedals with this problem. As most of us don't own either, we don't usually see this problem.

A few other EHX pedals have this issue too, like the Bass Blogger.

As far as the adapter goes, it actually uses a typical Boss-style adapter. It doesn't use a special adapter. But because of the way the circuit is designed (PNP transistors and "positive ground"), it can't share a common ground with other pedals that use the same adapter (unless they are also "positive ground").

So... you can do one of two things. You can either put it on its own adapter, or you can use a power supply with isolated outputs (some examples include the T-Rex Fuel Tank Jr., BBE Supacharger, Voodoo Lab Pedal Power 2+, and a few others).

BTW... my experience with the Nano Clone was pretty sour. It had a big volume drop and serious noise issues. If you bought yours new, are you having any of these issues?

I'm wondering if they made any changes to the circuit.

Also, the Diago power station has adaptors so centre negative adaptors can be used in its daisy chain.

Center-negative is the standard, though. There's nothing odd about the jack itself or the way it's wired. It's the same as most Boss, Ibanez, modern EHX, Digitech, etc. pedals.

(You might be thinking of those 1/8" center-positive plugs, which are just like headphone plugs - the Small Clone used it, but not the Nano Clone.)

The problem is the circuit design itself, so this pedal can't be daisy-chained to begin with. The Diago supply, as well as every other daisy-chain-style supply (even the Dunlop DC Brick), can power the Nano Clone ONLY if it's by itself. But that'd defeat the purpose of those supplies...

Dunno if they have, mine is almost new, and still has that volume drop, just tested it. no noise issues though, clear as a chorus

maybe it works better on guitar than bass...

Yep, you are right. I was thinking of the small clone.

Still surely a string of +ve ground pedals could be daisy chained together, if you happen to have an awkward taste in pedals.

Yep, which there aren't many of in general. Unless you really dig Fuzz Face clones.
