| | | | Interesting.
I'm not too sure if I'm sold on the Ravish Sitar, though. I do love Sitars and Tanpuras, but this still sounds too synthy. Don't get me wrong, it sounds great as it is, and you can do many interesting things with it, but as far as emulating a Sitar or Tanpura, it's still lacking too much, imo.

| | | | That's actually a LOT better than I thought it would sound. Haven't had a chance to demo one in a store yet, and after watching a few more guitar demos, was thinking it wasn't as exciting as when the first image came out. But it sounded surprisingly good on bass. Now, I'm really gonna have to make the shop and try it out! Pairing it with the POG2 and Soul Vibe ought to create some very interesting tonal soundscapes. |

It can get some pretty wicked synth sounds at even modest timbre settings., though I found very few different sitar sounds. On the other hand, it may do way better in a band context than solo.
Playing it seemed to pull the curtain back a touch -- I think you could emulate the main voice well by going short delay/long digital reverb >> envelope filter.
The sympathetic strings became a wash very quickly. I'd have to play with it more and really figure out the pitch settings. My bet: you could be a one man doom metal guitar section if you put a fuzz box after this puppy.
Definitely an interesting effect, and I'd have use for it... but I can't justify the board space on what would be a novelty item for me. I'll pass, but good work EHX. |

A bit too synthy/filtery to be a bona fide sitar. From what I've heard in the demos, it's ok with a guitar, probably gets you somewhere in the vicinity of the stereotypical Beatles sitar sound. With a bass, though, it's not really going to do what it's labeled as doing (i.e., emulating a sitar). Nevertheless, it's a quirky effect that might be to the liking of some.

I was thinking with the correct effects you could emulate it as well.
But
droning doom metal = Freaking awesome application idea

| | | | Had the opportunity to test it out in a store this past weekend for about a half hour. Sure, not a very long period of time to play with a pedal, but I wasn't blown away. I didn't find that many usable sounds on bass. I was trying it with a 6 string, so I did see if the high C would help, but not really. It tracked okay, but didn't go down to the low B enough to determine for sure. If I ever had this pedal, I'd probably use it more for a drone effect, and in that capacity it may do well, but for $240, that would be a huge investment for a drone effect. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
