EHX Steel Leather + Bass Blogger

Was digging through a box of music gear and came across a Steel Leather pedal that I bought from someone here over a year ago. I had only plugged it in to confirm it worked, then it got put in a box to get ready to move. I played a little with it this week and really like that bit of percussive sound it adds to the note when I dig in and play harder.

My band has a couple of songs where I go for a Lemmy style sound with distortion and lots of treble. I was using a GK head that had a B channel that added distortion, but recently got a GK MB210. I was having to change the gain volume on it, the volume and tone on my bass to get close to that sound. I got out my bass blogger that I never quite found a tone I really like on and hooked it up between the steel leather and the amp. After a lot of tweaking, I found the tone I was looking for. Played a show this weekend and had the steel leather on for the entire show and kicked the blogger on for 2 songs. Much easier than turning knobs on the amp and bass, plus it sounded better. These 2 will be making the trip to future shows for sure.

I agree. The Steel Leather is decent and I actually love the drive sound on the Blogger...especially through a fuzz with a blend in it. For a long time Blogger through Dunlop Blow Torch was my synthy sound. That drive has a great envelope...sounds like a tuba sometimes and it has a huge low end attack. Recently I got a TAFM and it's distortion sounds a bit like the Blogger's drive only allot more fuzzy and agressive.
I don't use the Blogger for my gig rig anymore though. It's bypass isn't good enough; one day when I took it off my board, I found out it had tone-suck bypassed. Maybe because I had to use a battery due to it's need for seperate power adapter (or battery). I was thankful my new EH Germanium overdrive uses standard power, and since I use it in an Xotic blender, any bypass issues are gone (if they are there).
