EHX stereo electric mistress bypass problem

Sign in to disble this ad
hey guys, i own an ehx stereo electric mistress

i'm having a problem with the bypass. you see, when the pedal is powered, the bypass is fine. but when the pedal is not powered and bypassed, the signal distorts.

anyone has any idea what's going on?

for those who are not aware, the SEM is digital, true bypassed, and only works on 9v dc (no battery)

Could be a power problem that makes the signal sputter. But doing it in bypass has me stumped. Could the signal be leeching over in bypass?

my initial suspicion was that there was a problem with the switching itself. but if it really is a true-bypass switch, i don't see why the fact of whether it's plugged into the power or not makes a difference. and i know jack about electronics.

i emailed ehx, awaiting their reply. but my fear is that little can be done, or at least the problem be identified, over email, unless it is a known issue

Worst case scenario, you send it to EHX and they fix it or replace it for you.

EHX has replied!

Thank you for purchasing the Stereo Electric Mistress. It does not have true bypass, it has a high quality buffered bypass.

Thanks,
John

so.... yeah. well.. that settles it then

just read alot of descriptions saying it was TBP. henceforth we can confirm that it isn't

volume drop?

since it does not have TBP does that mean the stereo mistress suffers from a big volume drop? i love the ehx stuff mainly because it sounds soooooo good AND it does not suffer from volume drops. someone please holler. thanks.

I can't speak to volume drop of this pedal (I didn't notice any in my brief time with it), but there is no global, or even common, association between not having true bypass and that particular problem.

I recommend you read this article on bypass methods if you are curious about learning the pros/cons of the various types.
