EHX Tube Pedal Question.

Does the tubes themselves glow inside the EHX Tube Pedals, or do they use a light bulb? Just curious!

I've seen it both ways. My Black Finger had a light bulb, and my English Muff'n didn't (IIRC).

I don't really get that since a tube already is a filament bulb with some added features, is it that the heaters get too hot/draw to much current or what?

It's just for looks, like on my Valve Drive. I could definately live without the added glow.

I don't know exactly what factors play into how much a tube does or doesn't light up on its own, but I do know that in normal use a 12AX7 doesn't light up all that much, and it may not light up at all at some of the low voltages and currents that are chosen in the designs of many inexpensive tube stages, so manufacturers will throw a lamp or LED in there for a nice light show that will make consumers happy about the fat tube warmth that they wouldn't hear if there was no light show.

Well, the heaters go on 6.3VDC if I remember correctly, so that can't be a problem...

ADDED light show? My EHX Muff'n glows and i think the glow is coming from inside the tubes. It certainly looks like it.

It's not a light bulb... it's the elves! They eat hum and make light for a living!

I thought with EHX elves it was the other way around...

No, see, those are the gremlins.

I'm talking about the elves that live in the Hum Debugger.
