EHX XO QTron+

I finally got to play around with one for a little bit yesterday, albeit not with my own gear. It seemed pretty nice (I haven't tried an original QTron+ so I can't compare), for $180 it was very tempting to pick up. I was able to get a pretty nice mellow sound out of it. The nasty funk sounds were not as forthcoming, I got some I wasn't 100% happy with, I think I'll have to mess with it more.

Anyone else tried it out? How does it compare to a regular QTron+?

I'm looking into different envelope pedals, this is the cheapest out of the bunch so I was really hoping I'd fall in love with it right away, but it didn't happen. I also noticed they have an Ibanez AF-9 (Is this the same as the maxon?), and a used MoogerFooger MuRF pedal (not the bass version) I may try out when I have some more time. I have a feeling I'm going to end up smashing my piggy bank for a Meatball or Ultron eventually....

I own the original QTron, and I love the sound I get out of it, I am very interested in A/Bing it with the new Q-Tron+ to compare/contrast.

Once my local music shop gets it in I think I will buy one to test it and return it when I'm done (I don't need to spend another $170 minus the around $70 I could sell mine for just to get the same sounds in a smaller package.)

I just ordered an EHX XO Q Tron+ from Ebay, for the price of nearly € 130 [US$ 171], should receive it in a couple of weeks. I'll be happy to share my thoughts about it, as I already own the big old Q Tron+, so I'll be able to lay down the pedals and compare what they offer with active and passive basses.

Yes, the Maxon AF-9 [I think the Ibanez AF-9 is pretty much the same thing] is a very nice alternative to the EHX Q-Tron... not as juicy and liquid, but very similar sound and almost the same controls. And because it's way smaller than those EHX tanks, and because I was lacking of free space on my pedal board at that time, I bought it. Plus, I found that it works better with Musicman basses than the Q Tron !

Cool, im looking for a small pedal type of filter and hadnt heard of the Ibanez AF-9 or Maxon before. looks good.
I have a EH mini Q-tron but dont like the over the top effect or the size.
Is the Ibanez AF-9 (or Maxon) a bit more controlled? I only want to add a bit of funk to my sound and not actually sound like anyone specific.
Any help would be great.

Thanks

IMO, the Maxon AF-9 is a much more subtle and sensitive pedal than the Q-Tron. Same type of effect, but a little less pronounced. It fits good in the mix.

With it, you just suggest the funk, you don't spill it all over the place like a Q-Tron would do.

I didn't notice any specific volume spike while engaging the Maxon AF-9, unlinke the Q-Tron, which tends to boost your signal pretty high... and believe me, that's a real pain in the ass!

The Maxon AF-9 is still available and sells new for about 150/200€. It's the old Ibanez version which is pretty rare to come across nowadays.

But please, don't get your hands on a Ibanez AW7, they sound horrible and are very cheap plastic built.

The Maxon AF-9 is NOT being discontinued... That's the Ibanez version of it, a pretty old pedal.

Check out this link, you'll find a starting point :

Cool, thanks for that link.
I think its now down to either the Maxon or the EBS IQ. both pretty much the same price
