Eleca Black Hurricane Octave Pedal

So I couldn't find much on this brand except some older random posts on random sites saying it was decent. The ebay listing didn't offer too much info but for $35 plus shipping I was willing to take the chance. I'm assuming that toggle is for a mid-boost (hopefully something similar to the MXR BOD). If anyone is interested I'll write up a short review when I get it.

Well, it came today. As far as build quality, I'd say it's very good, especially at the price point. I've only ever really played with some Boss octave pedals and never found them too exciting but I've always been kind of curious about octave pedals and the buzz about them.

I was enjoying playing it with my fretted 5 string. It seems to track well, but playing from G on the E string and below is kind of muddy and useless but as far as I understand I think that's common. Maybe the bass specific octaves are better but I don't know.

When I plugged in my fretless, I was blown away! I'm assuming this is something that octave users and fretless users are already aware of but I'd rather be late to the party than not even know it was going on. It sounds sweet.

The switch actually is an on/off switch that can bypass the bass filter. I don't know if this is common on Octave pedals, I don't have too much experience with them. With the bass filter off, the pedal has a pretty solid rasp to it. Almost sounds like its adding fuzz. With the bass engaged, its got a really nice, clear, fat, smooth sound.

So, mini review there. Eleca gets a thumbs up from me. If I had room on my board for a chorus, I'd probably be buying it off ebay right now. However I'm saving that board space for one of the EHX Freeze pedals that are coming out soon.

If there's any other info you're curious about, let me know! Seems we have our own private thread here Bongo. Love your compressor reviews by the way, that's really a great thing you do that helps a lot of us!

Looks to be a clone of the Electro-Harmonix Octave Multiplexer. I had an OM for a while. Good sounding octave, although the MXR blows it out of the water for my situation.

Yeah after doing some more checking on the old net, I noticed it was a Multiplexer clone. I haven't had a chance to play with the BOD but I also don't have the $$$ or so to try it out. Plus I probably won't be using it too incredibly often...
