Question Electro-Harmonix Big Muff Pi.

Sign in to disble this ad
I've having some trouble with this pedal. Instead of giving me a sweet distorted tone that it usually does, it just makes my sound louder. I've had my big muff for about 5 years and it has never done this. I thought maybe it just had a dead battery but I just switched it with a new battery and it still is doing it. I'm just a little confused. I kind of like it, though. It gives my sound an extra push but I really want the distorted sound too. Has this happened to anyone else?

Before buying a new one, you might try resoldering the solder joints on the two diodes in the 2nd stage. I'm not sure if these are germanium. If they are, you can only heat them for a very short period of time, so be quick. Then reflow any other solder connections that look suspect. May or may not work, if you're careful, all it costs is time.

Or sell it to me for $5 and maybe I can get it to work....

Is this the big silver NYC reissue?
It's like $30 used, which is less than shipping there and from a builder/repair dude + their time.

Just get a new (used) one, bud!
