on the sound control site this is under bass effects but on the electro-harmonix site the video showing it is showing it being used with a guitar

If you're not overwhelmed by the sea of threads that will show up as a result, you may want to see an optometrist.
But seriously, though... it's popular on bass. But then again, so is fuzz in general in this forum.

Instead of getting a Big Muff and I decided to build a clone and went with the one from General Guitar Gadgets. Keeps more bottom end and is more tweakable with tone and sustain controls on it. |

however...
the consensus is that the 'best' muffs for bass are either the russian or Little Big muffs, however, it important to mention that the tone control should be set at 11 o'clock or below to retain the bottom end properly. ive gone through a lot of distortions/ODs/fuzzes (bass distortions and guitar distortions used on bass) and its only recently i actually decided to give the muffs a go, and i was blown away, there doesnt appear to be any low end loss (with the tone low) but there is some mid-loss, but it gives such a great sound to my ears that i sold my black russian muff and got the old green Sovtek/Electroharmonix Big Muff (which is currently the pedal ive paid the most for ever)
i used to have the Little Big Muff, but made the 'mistake' of using it with the tone up and a clean mix, and just couldnt hear the fuzz in a band setting. now my Sovtek Muff with the tone down just sounds fat and furry without being peircing.
id say get the Little Big Muff (its true bypass and can be powered with 9v power supply, which most Big muffs cant), or the black Russian (personally i prefer the russian, but hated the lack of 9v adaptor input)
oh i think i should also clarify that the Double Muff isnt even a Big Muff (its 2 Muff Overdrive circuits in one box), the Big Muff is a different circuit (or so i have heard).
remember: TONE DOWN

When you kick in the switch for the double, it is so powerful. I havent found anything like it. |

The Muff Overdrive is the predecessor to the Big Muff. It only has a volume control, nothing more. The Double Muff has two of these in series - hence, two volume controls, and two settings for gain (there's a switch to have either one or both circuits on).
The Big Muff is significantly different because of the Tone and Gain knobs, but if you listen to them side-by-side, you'll still be able to tell that they're related, even if it's in a "second cousin" sort of way.

The double muff was just too subtle, even with both knobs up all the way and everything inbetween. I use tube amps and I was better off just cranking the gain on my amp than doing anything with the double muff besides using it as a paperweight. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
