There are a few things I would try using a bass that is already down in the octave needed.
The Hog still is a must as I used the Spectral Gate which strips away upper harmonics from the input signal.
I used the octave bend to drop the guitar into the bass range so just bypass that and see how it sounds.
You could also get tricky and try the octave above slider and drop the pitch back down to the bass range.
The Microsynth after the HOG did two things to alter the sound.
The first was it added a small bit of square wave or distortion to the sound.
The envelope filter would allow the buzz to be heard just for a short time after the note was played.
Kind of like the way a stand up bass string buzzes against its fret less finger board when plucked hard and then mellows out as the string dies down.
I think that is what really made it sound real.
It took some fooling with levels to get it right.
