Electro-Harmonix Octave Multiplexer

Wondering if anyone has experience with this pedal. A guy is selling one locally for $50 and I am thinking about picking it up. Would I be better off buying a pedal meant just for bass? How is the tracking? I won't be playing any chords. I heard that it can be a tone sucker, even though it has a true bypass. The MXR 288 sounds pretty cool, but it is way more expensive.

The EHX Octave Multiplexer has a lot of mojo but it is not in the same class of the Boss OC2 or the MXR BOD. Since it is an all analog design and quite old design the tracking can be glitchy especially on bass and there is a good bit of warm fuzziness on the sound that also may not be the thing for bass. That said is is still a very cool pedal it just has a lot more personality than more contemporary designs.

As long as you play up the neck you'll love it. Great textures from this pedal.

I like their bass microsynth a lot better. It does octave below and above, and has a bunch of other cool things as well.

using it,loving it....
not the best there is,not by far,but it has that "something",very good for backing up guitar solo,or just for emphesising chorus or something like that...
+with the sub switch off,you get some weird fuzz on the lower octave,and it's very user-friendly
