Not necessarily, but it works very well with bass, especially on the LP and BP+mix setting.

How does the effects loop work?
How is it different from putting it either before or after other FX?
I've got the original.

The effects loop puts the effect after the envelope section, but before the filter section. So dirts that either compress the output or kill the dynamics of the input.....you know.... don't. Obviously there are benefits to more than just dirt, but dirt is the easiest example.
