Electro Harmonix Q-tron+ XO Envelope Filter

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey guys I have been looking to purchase an envelope filter and really like the sound of the Electro Harmonix Q-tron+ XO Envelope Filter. This video is the sounds I like in an envelope filter: YouTube - ‪Part 1: Electro Harmonix Q-tron+ XO Envelope Filter Demo on bass‬‏
I was wonder if there are any other envelope filters you guys would recommend or ones that sounds like the Qtron in a smaller package?

While I can't comment that these filters will sound like the Q-Tron+ XO,...look into the Source Audio Bass Envelope Filter (of which Bryan R Tyler also has some demo's) and the 3Leaf Audio Groove Regulator or GR2 (Bryan R Tyler also has a demo of the former).

I had an EHX Q-Tron,...the 24v Non XO model and I had problems with it cutting through in a band setting. I think the features on the XO model can alleviate some of those issues and it's 9v.

OK thanks the source audio filter looks very interesting. Out of curiosity what filter did you replace the Q-tron with?

I own a Qtron+ that I purchased off the Classifieds here. Nothing sounds like a qtron except a qtron, in my opinion. It tracks really well, and atleast in my settings and usage of the pedal with a band, it has worked out great. Definitely well worth the money in my opinion. I'm sure other people on here have better suggestions, but I like the Qtron, so thats what I'll stick with

I've gone through the Digitech SynthWah (non bass),...A 442 Red Analogue Filter (I like that one and have considered getting another one), the 3leaf Audio Groove Regulator (I'd consider another one of those as well) and ultimately settled on the Source Audio BEF. There is a pro version of the BEF coming out as well.

As berwick says each filter is going to be different sounding and a lot of it will depend on your playing style,...the bass your using,...and to a certain extent your amp and the other effects you are using it with.

EDIT: Back to my honey do list

Big+1 here. I suggest maybe trying to score them used through the classifieds and trying a bunch out. Find what suits you, don't just say well, this guy has it, it sounds good. because each piece of gear can change the final product, including your play style.

The EXH Micro Q-tron has the same filter sounds w/o the additional controls, it may work for you may not but I like it.

The XO Q-tron+ is not 9 volts. You might look into the 3Leaf Proton, I haven't had the pleasure, but nothing I've tried sounds as good as a Q-tron, IMO.

I don't have my qtron+ here with me, but i believe its 12v or something along those lines. It requires an adapter for a onespot, but I use it with it's power supply just because i have it.

My bad, I usually research these things but I thought for sure it was 9v.

The QTron+ ships with a 24VDC /100mA Wall Wart which leads me to believe that it requires 24v.

Agreed. The q tron sounds great. Sometimes the volume spike can be annoying. Sometimes it gives you that extra boost to be heard. I own several, but the q tron sounds the best, even if its big and has that stupid power supply. Its a good purchase.

Yeah, I tried a number of other filters looking for something more compact and daisy chain friendly but nothing sounded as good as my Q-tron.
