Electro Harmonix Voice Box

I have been looking for some effects that can warp the bass sound from a microphone input. My searches have led me towards the Digitech Talker. I bought one on eBay that is nearly brand new (not bad for being a discontinued pedal) going for what the used ones generally sell for here.

I got reminded of the Electro Harmonix Voice Box and started wondering how it would work for bass. Would reversing the inputs be a success to achieve the talk box/vocoder effect? Basically, I'd plug the bass into the mic input and use a microphone through the instrument input. The video I watched on YouTube made it look like the instrument input would change the voice so maybe reversing them would produce the desired effect? I'm an effect amateur so please excuse me if this is wildly impractical.

Does this seem plausible? I'm still waiting for the Digitech Talker to arrive so I can play with it and see if it does what I want. The EHX Voice Box looks much more versatile and is also cheaper.

I'm sorry if this has been discussed. I couldn't think of a good way to word a search.
