Electronic parts in Austin?

Sign in to disble this ad
Wow after spending a large chunk of today looking all of the parts houses I used to use are all out of business (Electrotex, Tinkertronics, Bantam...), are there any over the counter electronics parts houses even left in town? Rad shak is for doodoo these days.
I have several things I need to repair or mod but can't find the parts.

As much as I'm not a fan of the store, I can get what I need for electronics repairs and mods at Fry's off mopac and parmer. if they don't have it, I look online.
If you find another place that's better, I'd be interested to know.

I have a friend here in Austin who was recently lamenting this same fact. He can't find anything useful locally anymore. In fact, I went to him to get come capacitors to repair a crossover. Fortunately he had some, but he got them shipped in off the internet.

Crazy that we don't have a good electronics store. No Fry's aint it!

In the past I went to Tinkertronix, Bantam, ElectroTex and a couple of others over in the north industrial area for parts but it seems that are all gone. Looks like I may be placing a Mouser order.

Shux fixing stuff isn't the hard part its getting the right partz.

Earlier this summer I was able to fix my A/C, blown capacitor for the motor and condenser unit, took 4 hours and 6 stops for the part and 10 minutes to fix.

The 'shack sucks! Everything is way too expensive

I'm not from Austin, but I've had a similar problem finding electronic components in Minneapolis. You can get some parts at flea markets, but the only other store in town is ABC Electronics where you pretty much have to know someone to even find out about it.

I bit the bullet and ordered the needed part and others from Mouser since I already had an account and a credit balance.
