The Elusive Quest for Multi Effects

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi all,

I'm after a bass multi effects pedal that's not on the overly expensive side of things, say <$300. In particular I want something that has the capability to mix envelope filter and octaver effects together, as well as octaver and chorus. Any suggestions?

Thanks

At your price range, there's the zoom b9.1ut, the zoom b2.1u(if you want something portable), the boss me-50b, the boss m-20b, and the digitech bp355. i have sound samples of the digitech bp355 and the zoom b2.1u on my soundclick website. here's the link.

Korg ax3000b has a good octaver and my favorite envelope filter short of actually getting my hands on a mutron III

Wait a few months and you can give the Zoom B3 a whirl as well.

I have just rediscovered my ME50B in the last few weeks and I am enjoying it. there are plenty of negative comments about all sorts of multi fx on TB - a lot of which I think is unfounded or based on people either not fully understanding how to use it or not reading the manual properly.

You would get an ME50B with quite a bit of spare cash if you pick it up 2nd hand.

What are the Zoom B1x boxes like? Do they have the capability of blending octave and envelope filter together? I'm having trouble finding anything specific about them

Neither the Zoom B1 or B2 can do envelope and octaver, those particular effects are in the same module.
However you can have envelope and pitch shifter that will do an octave down.

The B1 is a pretty nice unit especially for the price but it has limited parameters for control, the B2 offers more control, mix functions and 6 bands of EQ where the B1 only offers 3 bands.

Well the envelope and octaver is the deal breaker for what I'm looking for - I want some squelch. If the Zoom boxes offered that, it would be a no brainer. I used to play through a Zoom BFX 708 and loved the sounds that it had as well as the display, it's a shame the cheaper ones don't have a similar functionality to them anymore.

The pitch shifter might do the trick, but it does not have the girthy sound of the Octaver.
You can always add a pedal up front of the Zoom which is what I do.

Elusive? I don't think so, at least not if you've got the cash for a GT-10B .

Save up a little more and pick up a GT-10B. You can get one used from 300-350, not much competition to the GT-10B out there.

Just a FYI: If you want a good envelope filter avoid the Line 6 M series pedals. You could probably get one used at a price that would suit you, but there's no sensitivity setting for the envelope following effects, making them basically useless.

I hear it's probably going to be introduced, formally, @ NAMM. So, yes, it's not technically out in the market (not in the US, at least) but it's on their site.

Edit: Apparently, it's available for purchase in Japan: http://global.rakuten.com/en/store/b-drop/item/14851/
