Empress Effects ParaEQ......WOW !!

So in my never ending search for the Holy Grail of fretless sound, I began focusing on parametric eq.

Checked through the threads here and then picked up a mint used one on Ebay for $ 209.50. They are $ 249.00 new.

Just Wow !!

Being fully parametric is great, although the bandwidith control has only 3 positions: narrow, medium and wide.

Amazingly clean. The boost is great also. It just seems to make my bass sound richer and fuller but not as an effect.

Obligatory pic from after last gig:

Yup, Para's are great. I just finished a gig with my Fishman Dual Parametric DI for my upright. Such a flexible bit of kit, don't understand why it was dis-continued. Haven't tried the Empress but it sure looks great.

Where it has really been shining for me is with my Turner Ren 5
fretless bass with TI acousticore strings.

The piezo can be hard to dial in and the strings are unique. This pedal just sweetens and smooths out the tone just right.

Empress only makes products that are among the best in the world.

One of the best ever Canadian Audio Product Manufacturers.

Their Tremolo and Delay pedals are fantastic as well.

I want to update my experience of this pedal.

As written in the original posts, this pedal originally ADDED tone enhancement to my sound. It was noticeable. After a while, the pedal began to have excessive noice artifacts. Generally noisy when just plugged in and excessive hiss etc.

I sent it back and they quickly repaired it for free. However, when I got it back, it no longer had that very noticeable " magic" sound enhancement. Perhaps the component that was adding the "enhancement sound " that I so loved was the one that was on its way to failure.

It is a fabulous pedal and it works great and sound great but I do not want anyone to buy it as a result of what I said earlier thinking it is an " effects " pedal. It is however, the best EQ pedal I have ever tried.
