Emulating the "Pontoon" song sound

OK this really has nothing to do with bass, but this seems like the most intelligent forum on the net. If you know the popular pontoon song (its country from 2012) the opening lick is signature, and very unique sounding. From what I understand its played on a mandolin, and a mellotron manolin track with it, or something like that.
We need to cover the song for an upcoming party, This guy paid us handsomely last year, so we dont want to disappoint. Its a great outdoor boozing pool party.
Anywhoo we dont have a mandolin player. I'm wondering how we are gonna even come close emulating the sound. I do have ring modulator. I'm thinking that on a guitar? We have a keyboard player. Hes a great player, but is not into effects and all that. Any ideas.

A ring mod or octave up +2 pedal on the guitar will get the job done

Our guitarist uses an octave pedal with pretty good results. People love that song.
