Entry Level Compression

Sign in to disble this ad
I want to get a compressor pedal, im mostly looking to buy used, and i want to keep it under 100 bucks.

ive been looking at the Boss Limiter enhancer, and the compressor sustainer (guitar pedal)
the EHX soul preacher, and metaphors.
and the marshall ed-1

any ideas on these pedals?

what i want to obtain is a limit on the high and a boost in low.
just to keep it smooth

any info would be awesome.

THANKS!

BBE OptoStomp. Hands down the best "entry level" unit.

Be sure to check out Bongomania's extensive research on compressors. Like SteveC I really like the OptoStomp but my needs were simple.

BBE OptoStomp is a good one but if you can find a used Carl Martin Classic Opto I'd go with that.

+1 to checking out Bongomania's reviews. How do you think I landed on those two compressors in the first place

I think the Soul Preacher is a dud.

Also I think the BOSS CS's (guitar version) are also duds unless they are modded for bass.

Yeah the Soul Preacher sucks ass on Bass, pretty noisey and you lose a lot of volume. Best entry level unit is definitely the BBE OptoStomp.

I've been interested in the Classic Opto but the size is a real turn off. If anyone knows of a gut shot please direct me there because I've thought about trying one and re-housing if I like it, but I want to know how big the board is.

Here's a picture to put the size of this thing in perspective.

I don't remember the board size too well, but I do remember it's nowhere near as big as the chassis. Along the same lines, and in a smaller package, keep the BYOC Optical in mind.
