If you were to have one on your board for maximum versatility in the studio and stage, what would it be? Aguilar Filter Twin, MXR Auto Q, something else? I have a Q-Tron and a Bass Balls, and just ordered a Guyatone Bass Wah Rocker, (love them little guys) and they're all cool and will likely always remain in my "session trunk," but I'm looking for something that is a little more utilitarian to be velcroed to my board for immediate inspiration.
Akai Deep Impact is another I've always wanted, but they're pricey and not real reliable as I understand. And the Moogerfooger is cool too, but GIANT.
Whatcha think guys?

You can use an LFO to control the filter. It has 23 different types of filter, okay maybe 2 are really a phaser. A solid pedal indeed. |

The Proton is a great sounding, organic, no nonsense copy of the Mutron, whereas the Xerograph is a much more tweakable and modern take on the filter. They are two very good analog options.
Alternatively I would go for the 3Leaf Groove Regulator (1 or 2) which is a good copy of the Meatball (I think?). Very versatile filter, does vintage all the way through to modern sounds.
All three pedals I have mentioned sound incredible on Bass, no lowend loss and are (drum roll please) TRUE BYPASS (if that really bothers you). |

Xero for the deepest most organic dubby stuff while still being crazy versatile, BEF Pro if you can get past the horrific looks and ignore that it's digital and just play it. a HUGE range of sounds, and 6 save spots ROKKS. |

It took me a couple of times to figure out the nuances of thi thing, but I get it now and I dig it! |

I use a Boss LS-2 and keep all of my fuzz/octave in there and it really kills. Bubbly....funky....stanky....subtle.....and all without blowing up your speakers! |

It sounds great with my set-up, doesn't use a lot of real estate on my small pedalboard and its relatively easy to find band-usable settings (IMO). It killed my filter GAS.

But, unlike Ben, I dig the proton and have both on my board. I use the proton for Bill Laswell style filtered walking bass lines and the Xero for dub style and synth bass. |

It's easy for me to find the sounds I use. I like the sounds I've heard out of the Xero, but with all those knobs, I think I'd start chain-smoking...

In my opinion, there's nothing inherently wrong with digital pedals, especially if they afford you a much more versatile design and offer features which analog pedals can't (e.g. presets). FWIW I'm a big fan of your Source Audio designs, especially the soundblox 2 range. Good shout on going for aluminium casing as well . |

i'm still kinda bummed you abandoned that synth pedal project. that thing sounded HAWT. Quote:

LISTEN to the box in question, then decide if you like it. i use the M9, TimeLine, BEF Pro a LOT. because they sound great. just picked up the EQD Organizer which is pure SAUCE. and all the extra options with digital like save spots and tap tempo? yesh please.
it's not a prejudice against digital, but fuzz and dirt is where i usually want analog. it's more pleasing to my ears to go the analog route for dirt than digital. just a different kind of clipping. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
