So I'm really trying to find "the perfect filter" for me and I've gone through one and I'm trying another out currently. The first was a EHX Q-tron+ XO which could produce some great tones but was really tough to control for me. I fee like if I played passive basses the EHX would've been amazing but all of my basses are active (2 18V and 2 9V) and it feels like the pedal peaks out before the filter actually has a chance to affect the signal.
I'm trying out a 3Leaf Groove Regulator right now and I love how easy it is to get sweet sounds from it and it's super tweakable. The only thing I don't like about it is that it can't get nearly as wet as I would like.
My idea of wet is what I've been hearing in Uriah Duffy's clips of him playing of the soon to be released MXR M28 Bass Envelope Filter. That would be absolutely perfect for me if it had both up and down filter settings but it only has up. I'm still thinking about it though.
I'd love to have a filter that can go up and down and be as wet or dry as I want it to be and I'm just not sure where too look. I've eyeballing the Subdecay Prometheus but I have yet to hear any clips of it on bass. Aside from that and the MXR M28 I'm not sure what else to look at to find what I'm after. Does anyone have clips of any filters they'd like to suggest? I'm open to pretty much anything so long as it's not too much above $200.

First thing that came to mind is the Moog LPF. | The Moog only has an upsweep actually. And while it is fantastic for synthy sweeps with an expression pedal or for dub stuff with the cutoff fixed I don't really recommend it as a straight envelope filter.
The Chunk 00Funk does up and down sweeps and I have some old clips of it in the Wiki. $232 new from Tone Factor but under $200 used. It is a much wilder and synthier filter than the GR though.
Another option is the Maxon AF-9. Small, very wet and organic sounding with up and down sweeps, as well as high and low range as well as bandpass and lowpass modes. (Highpass too but it is all but useless on bass). Very underrated pedal IMO. But unlike the GR it can crank out some big volume spikes. Pretty much every really "wet" filter does.
The MXR looks intriguing. I love bandpass filters and but I think they always sound best with a clean blend, something they've built right in. To me it really depends on how much dry signal it needs to retain the low end. Definitely interested though. |

That isn't the Enigma IMO. | Lol, I kind of feel the same way. with the Q-tron+ and I assume the Enigma you can't just have the knobs wherever the hell you want and expected a good or usable sound. That kind of simplicity is what I'm after but if a pedal sounds nice enough I'll actually read the manual . After trying handful of EHX pedals I'm starting to think that they're made with passive basses in mind as opposed to active ones. My Bass Micro Synth has worked fine with every bass I've plugged in but the other pedals I've tried seemed much more comfortable with a less hot signal coming in. Quote:

The reason I say the Mark I is superior is because it has the in/outs for control voltage (keying it off via other devices, or vice-versa) and msot importantly the ability to set the volume for dry and effected signal so no matter how radical your sounds are it doesn't mean they'll ruin the mix or blow speakers.
Love my Groove Regulator, so I'm curious about mods too though I don't feel it needs any as I prefer its range of very usable sounds to extremely wet sounds. No serial number on mine as far as I can see. It's about 2 years old.

| | | | I too would be interested in seeing if I could get my GR a little wetter. I don't see a SN either, but it may be under the velcro. I bought it used.
SHould I peel off the velcro? Towards the side with the jacks or away from it?

Beyond that, there's usually something I can do if someone is unhappy with the sound. http://3leafaudio.com/rev2_update.pdf
