Envelope filter that "plays nice" with an OC-2

Sign in to disble this ad
So,
I recently got an OC-2 which I absolutely love, and I was wondering if you guys ever use it with an envelope filter and if so, which one. I have a 1st generation DoD FX-25 but the two together just don't really work together. I know it would sound awesome if i COULD get a really awesome quacky envelope sound to plug the OC-2 into. So, what filters do you guys use with it and does it sound awesome and really funky, or just kinda wierd and/or unusable?

My Subdecay Prometheus plays very well with my OC-2. Its a squelch on the end of the note essentially. Really funky IMHO. Haven't really dialed it in to much. I imagine it could be even better. Both pedals are touchy though, so touch is very important.

Less wet filters seem to pair very well. The 3leaf Groove Regulator and EMMA DiscumBOBulator spring to mind immediately. Just from clips I think the Mojo Hand Analogue Filter Red.

One difficulty with the OC-2 (or any analog octaver) and filters is that if they aren't at unity (something that can be hard to get exactly right) with your clean signal then they won't be giving the same strength signal to the filter as your clean tone which means you would have to adjust the sensitivity of the filter to get the same response.

When I had them dialed in, the OC-2 and Chunk 00Funk made awesome sounds. But the 00Funk is a very sensitive filter so it wasn't always easy to dial them in together quickly.

I had good results with my MutronIII but with a comp after the III and before the OC2.

Yes and Yes. I had the 442 which was the same pedal,...just Tonefactor's name for it. The Source Audio Soundblox Tri-Mod Wah is also versatile enough that it pairs well with an OC-2.

I think it helps throwing a little grit between the two whether it comes from an aggressive fuzz pedal,...or more subtle overdrive is up to you but I think the extra gain adds a little color to the sound and makes the sweeps better audible, and lets face it,....Octave-->Fuzz-->Filter is pretty much the recipe for synth bass like sounds.

Another yes... except I have the Boomstick Bottom Feeder, another name for the same pedal

Another vote for the 442Red/Bottom Feeder to pair with the OC-2. One just went for $75 in the classifieds. You can find them for around $100 used on occasion.

I think the new classic chain is OC-2>Supercollider>Bottom Feeder. I've had excellent results with this and I'm just about to buy back my old BF to reunite these old friends who have been on an overlong hiatus.
