envelope filter question

Sign in to disble this ad
im trying to figure out which envelope filter i should get. im looking at either the ehx q-tron (micro or regular) or the digitech bass synth wah. ive used the bsw, and i think it sounded way too digital, even for a synth pedal. i like what the q-tron can do and can imagine myself using that in alot of things. any other reccomendations?
also, when i was testing out the digitech bass synth wah, i noticed that the filter would activate when i played a note. but then, if there was any string buzz or whatever, it would reactivate and sound like i played the same not again. totally a song killer to have it sound like you played a note twice. id like something that doesnt do that. for the record, id be using this mainly for stoner metal

those are good but don't limit yourself. When it comes to recording if you want quality sound go with quality equipment...Try EBS or if you like vintage look into electroharmonix....

the samples i heard of the HAS mutron reissue were damn nice

the DOD FX25 is a monster pedal too

i also REALLY like the filters in the korg AX3000B. the unit alltogether cost less than what id pay for a good envelope filter alone..($200)

It sounds...like the FX 25. Really, there's not much to compare it to. There are clips of it in the WIKI.

i was really planning on getting this pedal somehow from US but i hate digital sounding effects..... the clips sounded kinda not so digital to me. *my moment of doubt*

I loved the FX25 so much i own two! i can go from a dub sounding low thump to a full on envelope quack by just adjusting my right hand dynamics. i also own an old boss dynamic filter....think flea used one on "sir psycho sexy" and its more subtle...

+1 for those three. The MXR Bass Auto Q might be worth a look too, very predictable and tight and tidy - typical MXR box basically - if you like that sort of thing.

I would avoid the DOD 440 clones (Boomstick Bottom Feeder, BYOC filter) unless you're after a very subtle effect - it doesn't do all-out quacky funk noises.

If we're talking about stoner rock, don't forget about a little fuzz in the filter. You can do some trippy stuff w/ the EHX BMS...
It's not subtle and when I do some filter sweeps for my band's spacey, stoner parts, the bass moves right up to the front of the mix.
You can use the pedal for non-enveloping parts to and use the octave and/or suboctaves for leads and what not.
The square wave can be turned off to just affect your signal going into the BMS or you can slide it up to add dirt to your sound.

Seriously, man, go try this out if you're playing stoner rock...and play with it at home when you're doing extracurriculars that stoner rock musicians do...

maybe it was just me. the digitech bass synth wah is actually a great pedal (i kinda plan on getting it). of course it sounded digital, it is a synth pedal after all. the envelope effects were fairly clean, but not as good as the q-tron, considering that the q-tron is just a single effect that does its effect very well

i was looking at the microsynth. sadly, money is an issue and i dont want to spend that much on it. i play in a thrash/power metal band, so i dont get much chance to use effects. id be mainly using it on my own time, messing around for fun, tool covers, and to add a little more depth to my slapping. i plan on getting a big muff soon as well. currently im running an ibanez pd7 into a digitech bass multichorus. id probably be putting the envelope at the end of the chain, but before (where there will eventually be) a wah and sansamp pbddi
