Envelope Filter in Rock?

I've seen that most of you seem to have at least one filter pedal on their board regardless of music style. How are you guys using the envelope pedal in rock instances?

Why didn't anyone ever tell me bossa nova sounded so good?

I use mine for less "rock" moments in my "rock" band.

Breakdowns, solos, or for sections where bass is the lead instrument.

I typically don't use it when the full band is hitting hard (playing rock music).

I used one for the solo in this "rock" tune, although I botched quite a few notes in it:

Claypool uses filters in rock tunes on occasion- The Final Voyage of the Liquid Sky has some filter stuff through part of it.

some of the "classic" high resonance "quacky" type envelope filters are too funky or synthy for everyday rock use, it's true. But there are other, "smoother" filters that can be used to round out your attack or give a kind of growly emphasis to your playing. Such effects are useful, if not obligatory, for plain ol' rock n roll.

Candidates for this purpose would include the 3Leaf Groove Regulator, EBS BassIQ (in Down mode), and the Emma DiscomBOBulator. Somebody else will ring in with other recommendations

Cool. I think I'm gonna check one out with some things I've been messing with.

I just tried out my new (to me) EBS bass IQ and I love this pedal. In Hi-q mode it's very funky and wet, in up and down it's much more subtle but still very prominent. One thing about this pedal that I think a lot of people don't mention, the swell is very powerful but in a good way.
