I'm not big on effects, but I just saw a video of Ed Friedland reviewing the MXR M-82 Envelope Filter.

Can anyone reccomend an inexpensive one please?

If you're looking to buy new, cheapest I heard was the Danelectro french fries, I think it's called. BassPlayer reviewed it about a year ago and they liked it.

I thinks it is what most people would consider to be relatively cheap. The EHX Nano Bassballs is cheaper, but doesn't have that same sound as the new MXR pedal. You could try the DOD FX-25B but that is pretty much classified as crap around here, but it does kind of have that same vibe as the MXR.

If your going for second hand, try ebay auctions or the classifieds here on talkbass. I picked up a Boss FT-2 which i absolutely LOVE from ebay for $61 AUS - its my favourite envelope! Other than that, I can recommend the envelope mode on the Digitech Bass Synth Wah, its pretty good but a bit sharp for my taste.

Alot of the pedals on ebay are seriousely overpriced. I recommend you keep your eye peeled on the sales on GC, MF and American Music...they usually have something on special everyday. Also, craiglist and other local options(pawn shops and music stores) are great ways to score good deals. Lastly, don't forget about 'google shopping' or another search engine....just type in the brand or manufacture # and watch the hits rack up. It will shop 100's of music stores in minutes. I scored a great deal on some beginers pedals a few days ago....3 new pedals for $48 delivered. Those items were usually $25-29 each, but this store seemed happy to knock some mark-up off the total.

One last item...I did splerge on a Groove Regulator....and I LOVE IT. I spend alot more time with my bass now that I got a really fun pedal to experiment with.

I bought my MXR M82 brand new for less than $110 including shipping on eBay.
