Envelope Filters and Bass Guitar Volume Setting

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm a newbie when it comes to using effects. I recently started trying envelope filters and having a hard time finding the right settings..

Question for those out there using envelope filters:

What are you setting the volume of your bass at? I have been told to set the volume of the Bass at full volume.

Thanks much..!

I have a passive and set it at full volume. A lot of filters like a hard signal.

Full volume on the bass, but watch your speaker cone as you play to see if it's spasming back and forth in an unnatural or violent way. Filters can put some serious stress on your speaker if you over-do it. So be ready to adjust the output volume or filter parameters on the pedal itself.

Remember also, BZ, that envelope filters, for the most part, react DYNAMICALLY to the intensity of your playing attack. Based on this dynamic, set whatever SENSITIVITY control is on your pedal to open the filter when your attack "intends" it to.

It's been said before, but many envelope filters require you to PLAY the filter, as opposed to other types of pedals where merely stomping the switch brings the effect into effect.

It depends what the sensitivity of the filter is like. The bass needs to be loud enough to trigger the effect. If you have the sens turned up and you can get a filter sound you like with the volume down, go for it.
